How this book works
Every rule has an address. Quote the address, not the page.
Numbers like 2.4 or A.3 are permanent. Page numbers move when the book grows; the address of a rule never does. "Follow 2.4" in a WhatsApp message to a printer is enough for them to find the exact rule, and enough for us to check the work against it.
One rule per spread. The rule, the reason for it, and the do and do not sit together on one page. Nothing is continued overleaf, so nothing is buried.
Three ways in: the contents on the next page, the find-it-fast index after it, and the A to Z at the back for anyone who does not know our vocabulary yet.
- Running header. Which part you are in, on every page.
- Address. Part number, then rule number. This is what you quote.
- Thumb index. One colour band per part on the outer edge. A printed copy opens to the right part by touch.
- Do and do not. Always on the same page as the rule they belong to.
What is provisional in this version
Everything in this book is written as a rule. Six items are still decisions in progress, and they are named here rather than hidden.
When each one is settled the note is removed and the rule stands as written. Until then, a reader can tell the difference between a locked rule and a working assumption.
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Clear space unit and minimum sizes (2.4, 2.5) | Carried from the July draft and the size stress test. Confirm before print. |
| Ruby value | Settled on 11 September 2026 at #B01F2F, the value the solid mark artwork already carried. The earlier palette-sheet value is retired. Pantone 187 C stands as stated, and Pantone is re-verified against a physical guide before print. |
| Kolam tile physical size (5.1) | The tile is square and seamless, so it scales to whatever the piece needs. No single mm value is fixed yet for stationery. Set one when the next print run is specified. |
| ISCL placements (A.3 to A.5) | Drawn to typical league dimensions. Replace with ISCL's artwork spec the day it arrives. |
| Photography before and after (6.3) | NEWGEN's own colour grade action is not recorded yet. Slot reserved. |
| Testimonial quotes and team photograph | Not in this book by design. They belong to the business profile and the website. |
The brand
Where NEWGEN comes from
NEWGEN Event Studio began in 2018 with one belief: a celebration should look, on the day, exactly the way it looked in the mind of the person who imagined it.
Mohan A started by sketching. Before a single flower was ordered or a stage built, he would sit with a family, listen to what they wanted their day to feel like, and draw it by hand, on paper, in front of them. That sketch became the promise, and the promise got kept.
Eight years later the same habit has carried NEWGEN through 1,500+ events and into three cities. The scale has changed. The sketch has not.
The name means what it says: next generation. It is built to carry NEWGEN through the next celebration, the next city and the next decade, and the descriptor "Event Studio" is designed to be removable when the hospitality chapter arrives.

Promise and tagline
The brand promise and the tagline are locked. Use both verbatim in formal material. Never paraphrase, shorten or restyle them.
Consistency is what makes them recognisable over time. A promise that is worded three different ways on three touchpoints is three promises, and none of them is remembered.
The tagline is set in Cormorant italic, with the calligraphic W. It sits beneath the descriptor, separated by the thin divider rule with its diamond centre point.

Personality, as evidence
NEWGEN is premium, visionary and trustworthy. Each word is a claim, so each one is paired with something a guest, a venue or a printer can actually see.
Adjectives are cheap. Every decorator in Chennai calls itself premium. What separates NEWGEN is that each trait has a habit behind it, and the habit can be shown.
Not luxury, not budget. The tier where craft meets professionalism.
Sees the event before it exists. Talks about what the guest will feel, not only what will be built.
Says what will happen, then it happens. No vague promises, no unverifiable superlatives.
Three differentiators
Three things set NEWGEN apart. Lead with them in that order, and let the first one carry the most weight.
These three are written once, here, and reused verbatim in the business profile, the website and every pitch. Do not invent a fourth for a particular document.
Every event starts with a hand-drawn concept, not a mood board pulled from someone else's wedding. What you approve is what gets built. No surprises on the day.
The measure of a good event is not how it looks in photographs before the guests arrive, it is how it feels once they do. Every setup is built around the people standing in the room.
Decor, AV, sound, photography, videography, logistics and catering coordination, all under NEWGEN, all accountable to one point of contact. No coordination gaps between vendors.
The only numbers we use
Six facts are approved for public use. Nothing outside this table appears on any NEWGEN material, ever.
An earlier deck carried invented figures annotated as dummy data. Anyone could have lifted them in good faith. This table exists so that nobody has to guess which numbers are real.
Two claims are never merged. The nine years belongs to Sri Venkatesh Mahal. Illam is claimed on exclusivity and prestige, never on duration. "Eight years as Illam's partner" is wrong and must never be written.
The logo
The primary mark
The Crown Pillar is the signature of NEWGEN. It is always reproduced from the master artwork, in one of the approved colours, and never altered.
The full mark is our signature: a temple pillar and flame finial woven into the N, where stability meets aspiration. Built to hold its presence with equal clarity across print, signage and digital touchpoints.
Chosen from 28 concepts with 80 percent public acceptance and the joint highest internal design score. It is designed to be the final mark, for twenty years, not two.
What the mark is made of
Three elements, one gesture. Know them by name, because production conversations refer to them.
The N curve is the swoosh, the aspiration gesture. The N line and temple pillar give stability and South Indian heritage. The flame and deepam stand for vision, celebration and light, universal rather than festival-specific.
Together: heritage, vision, light in motion.
Construction and the unit X
The mark is measured in one unit, X: the height of the crown, from the tip of the flame to the underside of the deepam cap. Every spacing rule in this book is written in X.
A unit taken from the mark itself scales with it. Ten millimetres is meaningless on a bus, and X is not.
a The crown. Its height is X. b The foot of the N curve, the lowest point of the mark. c The gap between swoosh and pillar, a deliberate figure-ground device, covered in 2.8.
Clear space
Keep a clear zone of at least X on every side of the mark, and of the full lockup. Nothing enters it.
The mark is quiet by design. It needs air to read as a signature rather than a badge. The zone is a minimum. On a letterhead or a signboard, give it more.
For the full lockup the same X applies, measured from the outermost point of the wordmark and the descriptor.
Minimum sizes
The full mark holds down to 16 pixels. No simplified variant exists, and none should be drawn.
The size stress test settled this. At 16 pixels fine detail begins to soften, the flame and the inner negative space first, but the mark stays recognisable. So the same artwork serves favicon, display picture, app icon and embroidery.
| Use | Minimum | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Full lockup, print | 20 mm wide | Below this the descriptor letterspacing closes up. |
| Full lockup, screen | 120 px wide | Same reason. Use the mark alone below this. |
| Mark alone, print | 10 mm high | Embroidery and engraving need more, see 2.8. |
| Mark alone, screen | 40 px high | Favicon and app icon go smaller: 16 px is proven, see right. |
| Solid mark, print | 10 mm | No fine detail, so it holds lower. Embroidery 25 mm, see 2.11. |
| Solid mark, screen | 32 px | The form for an app icon or a favicon, see 2.11. |
Approved lockups
Six forms are approved. Choose by the space and by what sits behind, never by taste.
Vertical lockup is the default: mark above NEWGEN above EVENT STUDIO. Vertical with tagline adds the divider rule and the tagline, for covers, signboards and the WhatsApp cover. Mark alone for square formats, watermarks and anything under the minimum. Wordmark alone only where the mark already appears elsewhere on the same piece.
The last two are container forms, and they exist for one reason: the logo sometimes needs to bring its own surface. The rounded card holds the full lockup. The solid mark is a disc with the mark cut out of it, and it is the form that survives being small or being stitched. Both are covered in 2.11.
A horizontal lockup is not part of the system. If a horizontal space forces one, raise it under 9.1 rather than improvising.

Solid markColour versions and the background matrix
Three colour versions exist: teal, gold and cream. Which one you use is decided by the background, using this table.
The ruby gem in STUDI● stays ruby in every version except one: on a ruby or red background, and on single-colour reproduction, the gem becomes the mark colour.
| Background | Use | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Cream (paper) | Teal mark, or gold mark | Gold mark alone is the softer choice for premium print; teal for documents |
| Teal (brand field) | Gold mark | Never cream on teal for the mark: cream is for type |
| Gold (brand field) | Teal mark | Ruby gem stays |
| Partner colour (purple, blue, any) | Gold mark or cream mark | Never teal on a foreign dark colour: it vanishes. See A.2 |
| Photograph | Cream or gold mark, on a quiet area, or on a teal scrim | Never full colour over a busy image. Legibility decides, not preference |
| White (a third party insists) | Teal mark | Cream is preferred over white wherever we control the stock |
The gap, and production tolerances
The gap between the swoosh and the pillar is intentional. It must never close, and it must never taper to a knife point. Its width stays constant along its whole length.
a The gap creates depth: the swoosh reads as passing in front of the pillar. Close it and the mark flattens into a letter. b The foot of the N curve is the second place fine processes fail, where a thin edge meets the base.
Each process below has a floor. Under that floor, use a different process or a larger mark. Never ask a vendor to "make it work".
| Process | Use | Floor |
|---|---|---|
| Offset and digital print | Full colour, all sizes above 2.5 | Ask for a physical proof for gold and ruby |
| Foil on board | Gold foil 871 C, mark alone or full lockup | Gap stays open above 15 mm mark height |
| Blind emboss and deboss | Mark alone | Gap opens at 12 mm and above; do not attempt below |
| Engraving on metal | Mark alone, single colour | Gap width minimum 0.4 mm on the tool |
| Embroidery, jersey and uniform | Mark alone or with wordmark, single colour thread | Mark height 40 mm minimum; gap minimum 1.2 mm or it fills with thread |
| Sublimation on fabric | Full colour | Mark height 35 mm minimum; expect the ruby gem to shift orange, test first |
| Cut vinyl, vehicles and signage | Single colour vinyl, gold or cream on teal | Gap minimum 2 mm; weed the gap by hand, never bridge it |
Never redraw
The mark is only ever reproduced from the supplied artwork. It is never redrawn, retraced, retyped or rebuilt, by anyone, for any reason.
A designer at a printer, a jersey supplier or a broadcast studio will offer to "recreate it in vector for you". The answer is no. The files already are vector. A redraw always drifts: the gap widens or closes, the flame fattens, the wordmark gets retyped in a lookalike face.
Send the files in 9.1. If a vendor cannot use them, that is a vendor problem, not an artwork problem.
Master artwork, placed and scaled. Proportions untouched.
"Recreated" by a vendor: a typed N, a substituted serif, the crown and the gap gone.
Misuse
Eight things that happen to logos. None of them happens to this one.
Each example is specific to this mark, because generic rules get ignored. The gap, the deepam, the black, the partner colour: these are the failures a real vendor will produce unless told otherwise.
Container forms: the card and the solid mark
When the logo cannot trust what is behind it, it brings its own surface. Two forms do that job, and they are not interchangeable.
The rounded card is the full lockup on a rounded rectangle. Use it where the logo needs a clean field of its own: a badge over a photograph, a sticker or label, a stamp on a document, a tile in a partner line-up. Corner radius is 12.8 percent of the short side and holds at every size. It is not the primary logo: on a letterhead, a signboard or a vehicle the plain lockup wins, because the card competes with the layout.
The solid mark is a filled disc with the Crown Pillar cut out of it. It carries no fine detail and no gap that a stitch or a die can close, which makes it the only form to send for embroidery, a lapel pin, a jersey patch, an app icon or a favicon. It holds at 10 mm in print and 32 px on screen, well below the lockup floor of 20 mm.
The solid mark comes in two builds and choosing wrong is the one way it fails. Knockout leaves the letter open, so the background shows through: use it only when you know what is behind. Two colour fills the letter, so it reads the same anywhere: send this one to anybody outside the studio.

The palette
Five colours. Gold carries the brand emotionally, teal grounds it, cream gives it room, ochre points, ruby punctuates.
Anything outside this set requires a conscious decision and a reason. It is never a default.
Print-first, purpose-driven. Each colour is expanded into tints only where it serves hierarchy, depth or subtlety in real applications, see 3.2.

Values
One table, four systems. Screen uses HEX and RGB. Print uses CMYK for process and Pantone for spot. Create exactly these eight swatches in every working file.
Swatch names are part of the system: NG-Teal-100, NG-Teal-60, NG-Teal-20, NG-Gold-100, NG-Gold-Dark, NG-Cream (use stock), NG-Ochre-100, NG-Ruby-100.
Teal for Illustrator CMYK production may round to #024C51. That is CMYK rounding, not a design decision. Screen work always uses #024C4F.
| Colour | Swatch | HEX | RGB | CMYK | Pantone | Tints |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Teal | NG-Teal-100 | #024C4F | 2 / 76 / 79 | 91 / 37 / 45 / 72 | 3165 C | 60%, 20%, 10% optional |
| Gold | NG-Gold-100 | #D7A953 | 215 / 169 / 83 | 14 / 30 / 65 / 0 | 871 C metallic | Dark #8B6200, 40%, 15% |
| Cream | NG-Cream | #FAF8F4 | 250 / 248 / 244 | 1 / 1 / 2 / 0 | none, use stock | none |
| Ochre | NG-Ochre-100 | #E1A23D | 225 / 162 / 61 | 8 / 38 / 85 / 0 | 7549 C | 60%, 25%, layout decision |
| Ruby | NG-Ruby-100 | #B01F2F | 176 / 31 / 47 | 18 / 100 / 80 / 8 | 187 C | no tints, no shades |
Hierarchy and proportion
Gold is used most. Teal second. Cream is the ground. Ochre is an accent only. Ruby is one small focal element per touchpoint, never a base colour. Black is never a dominant colour.
The proportion is the identity. Swap the weights and the piece stops looking like NEWGEN even with every colour correct.
The ruby rule is the one most often broken. One gem per touchpoint. If a layout wants a second red element, the first one loses.
No black as a dominant colour is Mohan's explicit call, not a stylistic preference. Treat it as a hard constraint in every review. Teal 100 does the work black would do.
Contrast: pairs that pass and pairs that do not
Text is set only in pairs that reach 4.5 to 1. Large text and the mark may use 3 to 1. Anything below 3 to 1 is decoration and never carries words.
Measured, not judged by eye. The two brand pairs that fail for body text are the ones people reach for first: gold on cream and cream on gold. They are beautiful and they are illegible at 10 point. Use them for the mark, rules and large display, never for a paragraph or a phone number.
Print notes
Colour is approved on paper, under a fixed light, from a physical proof. Never from a screen and never from a vendor's PDF.
These notes travel with every print order. A printer who has read them has no reason to ask.
| Physical proof | Always request a physical press proof for gold and ruby before final production. Approve proofs under 5000 K lighting. |
| Stock | Uncoated premium stock wherever possible. Cream is never printed: the recommended stock is Crane Lettra 110 gsm Pearl White, or an equivalent warm white uncoated. |
| Gold | Pantone 871 C metallic for foil and spot. In process print, the dark shade #8B6200 prevents a flat yellow look on light backgrounds. |
| Teal | Avoid rich black overprints with teal. Use Teal 100 for solid dark areas. The 20 percent tint is essential for ghost patterns and watermarks on cream stock. |
| Ruby | May shift orange-red on uncoated stock. Adjust to C15 M100 Y75 K10 if the proof shows it. Test before every new stock. |
| Coated versus uncoated | Expect gold and teal to shift on uncoated stock. Do not compensate on screen; compensate on the proof. |
Typography
Two families, three roles
Cormorant Garamond Bold carries the wordmark and every headline. Futura PT Light, widely tracked, carries the descriptor and every label. Cormorant italic carries the tagline and nothing else.
The contrast between the high-contrast serif and the pure geometric sans is the type system. It is intentional and must be preserved. Do not "fix" it by matching weights or by choosing a softer sans.
The display serif is never asked to carry small or dense text. Below 14 point, Futura takes over.
Hierarchy and scale
Six roles. Every piece of NEWGEN text is one of them.
The scale is fixed so that a quotation, a letter and a signboard read as one voice at three sizes. When a layout seems to need a seventh role, it needs less text.
| Role | Face | Size | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display | Cormorant Garamond Bold | 36 to 60 pt | Covers, signboards, one line only |
| Headline | Cormorant Garamond Bold | 20 to 28 pt | Section titles, event names on concept sheets |
| Subhead | Cormorant Garamond Semibold | 14 to 16 pt | Panel titles, table headers in pitch documents |
| Body | Futura PT Light or Book | 9.5 to 11 pt, leading 1.45 | Letters, proposals, profile copy. Keep lines near 65 characters |
| Label | Futura PT Light, tracked 20 to 30% | 7 to 9 pt, uppercase | Descriptors, captions, form labels, footers |
| Data | Futura PT Book, tabular figures | 9 to 10 pt | Quotation and invoice tables. Figures align on the decimal |

Thank you for choosing NEWGEN Event Studio for your daughter's wedding celebration at Sri Varalakshmi Mahal, Mogappair, on 14 August 2026. This letter confirms our engagement as per the terms discussed, including stage decor, floral styling, entrance setup and lighting design.
Substitutes, and what is never used
When the licensed faces are unavailable, use Cormorant, Jost Light and Inter from Google Fonts. Nothing else, and never a decorative script.
Cormorant (the base family) stands in for Cormorant Garamond and carries the tagline. Jost Light is the nearest free match to Futura PT. Inter is the interface face for web and app screens only.
Decorative flower and vine fonts were explicitly rejected: they make NEWGEN look like every other event company. Condensed and ultra-light weights fail on signage and vehicles at distance.
Cormorant with Jost. The pair the system is built on.
A script and a condensed grotesque. Reads as any decorator in the city.
Tamil, and the bilingual setting
Neither brand face carries Tamil glyphs. Tamil is set in Noto Sans Tamil, size-matched to Futura, and every ceremony name appears in both languages.
Without this rule, every Tamil word on the website and in print falls back to a system font, and the piece looks broken in the one place it needs to feel fluent.
The pattern: English in the heading, Tamil in the first sentence and as a tag. It reads as the way people in Chennai actually speak, not as keyword stuffing.
Nichayathartham. The first ceremony, and the first sketch.
Muhurtham. Real flowers, always. See 6.4 for why.
Gruhapravesam. The 4.30 am flower work.
Valaikaappu. Bangles, and a stage built for the mother.
| Tamil face | Noto Sans Tamil Regular, subset to the glyphs used |
| Size match | Set Tamil 5 percent smaller than the adjacent Futura, so x-heights agree |
| Never | Tamil in a decorative or calligraphic face. Never transliterated Tamil in Cormorant italic |
Setting text
Short declarative sentences. Numbers over adjectives. Sentence case for every title. No em dashes anywhere, and no exclamation marks.
These are typographic rules as much as voice rules, because they change how a page looks. A title in capitals shouts. An em dash breaks the line like a fence. An exclamation mark does the confidence's job for it, and it shows.
Six mandapam partnerships since 2017. Nine years with Sri Venkatesh Mahal, our longest-standing relationship.
Chennai's #1 decorator with AMAZING mandapam partnerships!! Trusted by top brands.
Pattern and graphic language
The kolam master tile
One square tile, drawn as a single unbroken line. It repeats on a grid with zero spacing. It is never redrawn, only placed.
A kolam is drawn as one continuous line: the practice holds that an unbroken line keeps out what should stay out. Our tile keeps that rule. It is unicursal, and any version of it that breaks the line is not the pattern.
The tile and the single motif are two different assets and are not interchangeable. The tile is the ground. The motif, shown in 5.3, is the ornament that goes on top of it.
Colourways
Three colourways. Gold on teal is primary. Gold on cream is secondary. Teal on cream is tertiary. No fourth.
The lines are always a brand colour on a brand ground. Never a tint of the ground colour on itself, never grey, never black.
Scale and placement
The pattern is texture, not decoration. It sits behind, at the edge, or at a corner. It never competes with the mark and never fills a page at full strength.
Three proven scales. On a business card back it reads as delicate texture. On a letterhead band the geometry is visible. On an envelope lining the full pattern is legible and elegant.
The single motif, one tile standing alone, is the pattern's other voice: a corner mark on the quotation, a divider on a cover, an emboss on a folder.
Cover: field pattern at 20 percent, single motif in gold with one ruby centre
Quotation: pattern confined to the teal band, motif as a corner mark
Thank-you card: pattern as a ghost on both fieldsPattern at 20 percent tint of the line colour, or below, when type sits over it.
Full-strength pattern behind text, the pattern rotated, or the tile scaled non-uniformly.
Illustration and icons
Illustration is cut from the kolam lattice, never bought as generic spot art. Icons come from one geometric family at one stroke weight.
An unclosed kolam reads as "not yet complete". That is exactly the right picture for an empty category, a failed image, a 404 or an offline page, and it is completely ownable. Five compositions cover launch; the full library comes later.
Icons: one family, one stroke weight, one size scale. Gold or teal only, never multicolour. The line icon set on the right is the current family and must reconcile with the minimal teal icons on the business card back.

Current icon family, gold line, single weightPhotography
What a NEWGEN photograph is
Real work, actually delivered, photographed with the hall as the subject. Warm, natural colour. Never stock, never illustrated, never generated.
The portfolio is evidence. A bride books from it, and on the day the room has to match the picture. Three approved moodboards set the register: Temple Heritage through a modern lens, Boutique Hotel Premium, and Sketch to Stage.
Photographs lead and copy supports. This is the one rule that makes the website and Instagram feel like NEWGEN rather than like a brochure.

The mandatory shots
Five frames per event, minimum, in this order. A photographer who leaves without them is called back.
The order follows the guest journey Mohan sells with: outside in, entrance to stage. A page built from these frames walks a visitor through the venue the way he walks a client.
| Frame | What it is |
|---|---|
| Wide | The whole setup in one frame, from the guest's entry point. The establishing shot for every listing. |
| Mid | Stage or backdrop, straight on, filling the frame. The one that sells. |
| Close-up, one or two | Florals, the garland, the finish. Proof of craft, never a whole stage. |
| Atmosphere | The hall full, guests present, faces turned away or unidentifiable. The frame that shows it worked. |
| The sketch | Where one exists, the hand-drawn concept beside the built result. This is the differentiator made visible. |
Enhance, never regenerate
Exposure, white balance, crop and noise may be corrected. Nothing may be added, removed or regenerated. A photograph that has been generatively altered is not a NEWGEN photograph.
The line is simple: a correction makes the picture truer to the room. A regeneration makes it a picture of a room that did not exist, and that becomes Mohan's problem on the wedding day.
NEWGEN records its own colour grade as a one-click action, values derived from the NEWGEN palette. Warm toward gold, shadows toward teal, 2 to 3 percent film grain. Never reuse another studio's grade: two Chennai decorators with one grade read as one gallery.
Before: as delivered from the phone
After: NEWGEN grade. Simulated here; the recorded action replaces this in v0.2Exposure, white balance, crop, straighten, noise reduction, dust removal.
Generative fill, object removal beyond dust, sky replacement, adding flowers, changing a colour of anything the client paid for.
People, faces and the photographer brief
No identifiable guest faces without written consent. Crew and the founder may appear. Every hired photographer receives the one-page brief on this spread.
Guests did not agree to be marketing. Shoot the hall, the setup and the atmosphere; turn faces away, shoot from behind, or crop. The bride and groom appear only with their consent, and then with pleasure.
- Five frames minimum per event: wide from the guest entry, mid of the stage, one or two close-ups of the finish, the hall full with faces unidentifiable, and the sketch beside the result where one exists.
- Shoot the setup before guests, then again with the hall full. Both are needed.
- No identifiable guest faces. Crew and Mohan A are fine.
- Deliver RAW or highest-quality JPEG, uncropped, ungraded. NEWGEN applies its own grade.
- No filters, no AI enhancement, no generative edits of any kind.
- File names: venue, zone, date. Example: illam-priyam_stage_2026-08-14_01.jpg.
- Real flowers at muhurtham are the point. Get close enough to show they are real.
Voice
The voice in one line
NEWGEN speaks the way Mohan works: it sketches before it sells, and it never oversells what it cannot deliver.
If a sentence sounds like it is trying to impress, it is off-brand. If it sounds like a calm, capable person quietly showing you proof, it is on-brand.
If NEWGEN were a person: well-dressed, soft-spoken, carries a sketchbook everywhere, listens more than he talks, draws what you describe, and builds it exactly as promised. Bilingual naturally, moving between English and Tamil the way people actually do in Chennai. Write like that person is talking, never like a marketing department.
- Confident and assured. This team has done this before, at this scale, and it went right.
- Seen and understood. They listened to what was actually described.
- Moved, but only at the real payoff moments: the reveal, the finished sketch, the guest reaction.
Five principles
Each principle is shown as a bad line and a good line, because the difference is easier to hear than to explain.
The good lines are real NEWGEN lines. Reuse them.
| Principle | Off-brand | On-brand |
|---|---|---|
| Show, then tell | "We are Chennai's most trusted decorators." | "Nine years as Sri Venkatesh Mahal's decoration partner. Ask them why they never looked elsewhere." |
| Specific beats superlative | "Amazing weddings, unforgettable memories." | "1,500+ events since 2018: weddings, corporate launches, and a few we are still asked to describe from memory." |
| Calm confidence, not salesmanship | "Don't miss this chance to work with the BEST decorators in town!!!" | "We usually book out 3 to 4 months ahead. Worth a call before you lock your date." |
| The sketch is always the hero | "Full-service event solutions for every occasion." | "We sketch it first. What you approve is what your guests will see." |
| Warm, never over-familiar | "Hi! We are SO excited to work with your beautiful venue!" | "A venue named with such devotion deserves work done with equal devotion." |
Sentence mechanics and word choice
No em dashes. No exclamation marks. No rhetorical questions in headlines. Never the word "unmistakably". Short declarative sentences. Numbers wherever a real number exists.
Use a comma, a colon, parentheses or a hyphen with spaces where an em dash would go. Avoid stacked adjectives: pick the one true word, or describe the detail instead.
Register by audience
One voice, six registers. Know who is reading before writing a word.
Three Tier 1 audiences share NEWGEN: HNI wedding families, mandapam owners, and hotel and resort GMs. Each gets a register, and the website has to hold all three on one homepage without feeling split.
| Audience | Register |
|---|---|
| Client WhatsApp, Mohan's own voice | Tanglish. Domain words stay English (site visit, quotation, concept sketch), verb endings and connective tissue in colloquial Tamil, respectful plural (நீங்க) always. Written to be read aloud. |
| Mandapam owners, venues, hotel GMs | The most formal register. Short, sincere, low on adjectives. Credentials carry the persuasion. Never presume an existing relationship. |
| HNI and family clients | The warmest register outside Mohan's own. Personal without being casual. Reassurance is the job, not excitement. Reference their vision specifically. |
| Corporate clients | The driest register. Logistics competence and named proof first. No emotional language. |
| WhatsApp Business, automated | The institutional voice: auto-replies, day 1, 3, 7 follow-ups, review requests. Warm, bilingual where useful, neutral enough to sound right from any team member. |
| Website, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google | The website carries the master tone, editorial and restrained. Instagram: short captions, the photograph is the pitch. LinkedIn: credentials, no wedding language. Google: factual, what happened, where. |
Caption framework
Five caption shapes, one per channel. Copy the shape, change the facts.
Captions are short. The visual is the pitch; the caption is the caption. Avoid the industry openers: "Because every love story deserves..." and "Swipe to see the magic" are banned.
| Channel | Shape | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram, finished decor | Venue, zone, one detail. Under 20 words. | Reception stage at Priyam. Real jasmine on the ceiling garden, because the fragrance is the point. |
| Instagram, process | A sentence more narrative is allowed. | Sketched on a Tuesday, built on a Saturday. The family approved this on paper before a single flower was ordered. |
| Google Business Profile | What happened, where, for whom. No adjectives. | Wedding reception decor at MKS Grand Palace, Chennai. Stage, entrance and aisle by NEWGEN Event Studio. |
| WhatsApp, Tanglish | Domain words in English, the rest spoken Tamil, respectful plural. | Site visit-க்கு நாளைக்கு 4 மணிக்கு வரலாமா? Concept sketch அன்னைக்கே காட்டிடறோம். |
| Credentials first, named venue, no wedding vocabulary. | Nine years as the decoration partner of Sri Venkatesh Mahal. Six mandapam partnerships across Chennai since 2017. One process behind all of them. |
Applications
How applications are specified
Every application is drawn as a flat technical elevation: hairline teal outline on cream, colour only where the brand sits, lettered callouts, real dimensions in millimetres. A vendor builds from the page without a phone call.
A photographic mockup shows what something might look like. A specification shows what to make. This book carries both, and only the specification is binding.
Conventions: a, b, c callouts key to the caption column. Dimensions are finished size, bleed excluded unless stated. Cap height means the height of the capital N in NEWGEN.
Stationery
Business card, letterhead, quotation and invoice share one system: teal field with the pattern, cream working area, gold mark, ruby gem, one line of contact detail in Futura.
Financial and operational documents carry almost no free-standing copy. The brand shows through the system, the layout, the colour and the type, never through language. Write only what is functionally required.
Quotation and invoice mirror each other exactly, so a client recognises a NEWGEN document before reading it. Address, phones and email match the business profile character for character.
Letterhead, A4. Teal header band with pattern, body 80 percent clear, footer contact strip, three cities
Quotation, A4. GSTIN and SAC in the band, 16-line table, terms fixedDigital
The mark alone is the display picture everywhere. Gold on teal for the studio, and a small letter or icon badge for each role account. The wordmark is never used as a display picture: it is illegible at that size.
Role tiles: studio, hello (customer facing), crew, shoot, founder and MD ma'am each carry the mark with a badge, on teal, gold or ruby, so a contact can tell which NEWGEN number they are talking to before reading the name.
Square posts and status images use the teal tile with the full lockup, or a photograph with the cream mark as a watermark at 8 to 10 percent of the image width, corner placed.
Role display pictures
Square tile, 1080 × 1080
Festival status, 1080 × 1920. Mark and lockup small, at the footSignboard and name board
Teal field, gold lockup, the tagline optional, cream contact line on the bottom edge. Display weight only: no thin serif strokes at this scale.
a Full lockup, gold vinyl or gold paint, cap height 90 mm on a 6 × 4 ft board. b Tagline in Cormorant italic, gold, optional. c Edge margin never less than X, and never less than 60 mm.
Material: ACP with cut vinyl for the standard board; acrylic with backlit gold for the blade sign. Pattern at 20 percent tint of gold behind, or none. High contrast for distance: teal and gold read at 30 metres, cream type at 15.

Vehicles
Vehicle branding is read in two to three seconds at speed. Mark, wordmark and one phone number, large, on a teal panel. No tagline, no motif detail, no service list.
a Full lockup, gold cut vinyl on teal, cap height 150 mm on the cargo side of the Mahindra Bolero pick-up and Dost XL. b WhatsApp number in Futura, cream, 60 mm cap height. c Cab stays unbranded except the mark alone on the door, 120 mm high.
Rear door, where present: mark alone, 300 mm, centred. Production vector for the signage vendor is supplied from the master file, never from this drawing.
Staff and operational
ID card, lanyard and uniform carry the mark in single colour. The thank-you card is the one operational piece that earns a sentence.
ID card CR80, teal, gold lockup, photograph in a gold ring, name in cream, role in gold. Lanyard: alternating mark and kolam motif in gold on teal, 20 mm. Uniform: mark alone on the left chest, single colour, wordmark on the back where the role allows.
The thank-you card says one sincere thing in Mohan's own register, nothing more. It is closer to what he would say aloud after an event than to a printed insert.
Staff ID, CR80

Chair sash tag: monogram only at the knotBeside other marks
When the NEWGEN mark sits beside a venue, a partner or a league, both marks keep their own clear space, sit on one baseline, and are separated by a vertical hairline. Neither is taller than the other by more than 20 percent.
Co-branding is where identities dissolve. The rule is mechanical so that it does not depend on taste: measure the partner mark, cap the height, keep X between the two, divide with a line.
NEWGEN leads on NEWGEN material. The partner leads on theirs. On neutral ground, alphabetical. See the annexe for the ISCL case in full.
ISCL partnership annexe
The partnership, and why this annexe exists
NEWGEN Event Studio is the Official Travel Partner of Chola Kings, Tamil Nadu, in the Indian Softball Cricket League. The mark will appear on a jersey, a team bus, 127 boundary boards and 14 broadcast spots on Sony Sports Network.
This is the largest surface the mark has ever carried, in front of an audience that has never heard of NEWGEN and sees it with no context. So the descriptor stays visible: the symbol never travels alone here.
Clause 11 of the MoU gives ISCL the right to request files in its formats, on its timeline, and to reject or modify artwork. This annexe, and the file set in A.6, are what prevent a redraw.
The company name in every supplied file is NEWGEN Event Studio, and the email is studio@newgeneventstudio.com, regardless of how the MoU text reads.
| Placement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Broadcast | 14 spots of 10 seconds, Sony Sports Network |
| Boundary boards | 1 per match across 127 matches |
| Jersey | Shoulder placement, Chola Kings team jersey |
| Team bus | Small logo placement |
| Designation | Official Travel Partner of Chola Kings, Tamil Nadu | Indian Softball Cricket League (ISCL). Use verbatim, subject to ISCL approval |
The partnership lockup
One approved lockup carries the association: NEWGEN lockup, hairline divider, Chola Kings mark, and the designation line beneath. Nothing enters the isolation zone, and neither mark is scaled against the other beyond 20 percent.
a NEWGEN full lockup, descriptor visible. b Chola Kings mark, supplied by ISCL, never redrawn by us either. c Designation line in Futura, sentence case, verbatim from clause 9.
The lockup reads as sponsorship, not as NEWGEN being a travel company. That is the whole point of keeping "Event Studio" in the frame.
On ISCL's purple, magenta and blue system: gold or cream mark only. Never teal on their colours. Chola Kings team colours, when supplied, are tested against 3.4 before any artwork is released.
Boundary board
Teal field, the lockup in gold at 80 percent of board height on the left third, NEWGEN repeated large in the right two thirds. No tagline, no phone number, no pattern. The ruby gem is dropped: at this distance it reads as dirt.
a Full lockup, gold, 0.8 of board height, left third. b NEWGEN in Cormorant Bold, gold, cap height 0.45 of board height, with EVENT STUDIO · CHENNAI beneath in cream Futura. c Edge margin 100 mm minimum, because boards are trimmed and overlapped on site.
This is the distance and broadcast variant of the mark: gold on teal, gem removed, no fine detail. It exists only for boards and broadcast and is never used in print.
Jersey shoulder
Mark alone, single colour, on the shoulder panel, 40 mm minimum height. Embroidered wherever ISCL allows it. The gap between swoosh and pillar is called out to the supplier at 1.2 mm minimum.
Embroidery on a curved shoulder is exactly the process that fills the gap with thread and rounds off the flame. The floor in 2.8 applies with no exceptions, and a stitched sample is approved before the run.
Colour: gold thread on a dark jersey, teal thread on a light one, decided by 2.7 once the Chola Kings colours are known.
Team bus, and broadcast
Bus: a 300 mm teal patch on the rear quarter panel, gold lockup, cut vinyl. Broadcast: the distance variant from A.3, on screen for no less than 2 seconds at no less than 8 percent of frame height, inside the title-safe area.
Vinyl on a curved panel: the gap floor is 2 mm, weeded by hand, never bridged. The patch is teal because the mark must not be placed directly on the team livery.
Broadcast files are supplied as the distance variant, 16:9 and 1:1, with a 10 percent safe margin baked in. Ten seconds is not long. One frame with the mark clearly legible beats ten frames of animation.
What ISCL receives, and what it does not
Third parties receive production formats only. The master files never leave the studio. Every delivery carries a one-page specification sheet.
The IOC runs its brand this way, and for the same reason: whoever holds the master can change the mark. Whoever holds an EPS can only place it.
| Tier | Files |

| Distance and broadcast variant | ISCL boards and broadcast only: gold on teal, gem removed, 16:9 and 1:1 PNG at 4K, plus vector |
| Partnership lockup | A.2, as vector, once the Chola Kings mark is received |
| Raster, for presentations only | PNG at 600 ppi, transparent, gold and teal |
| With every file | A one-page spec sheet: 2.4, 2.5, 2.8, 2.9 and 2.10 condensed, and this line: the mark is reproduced only from these files and is never redrawn |

Versions, files and decisions
This is version 0.1, dated 6 September 2026. It supersedes every earlier logo, colour, type or pattern decision. When a rule needs to bend, it is raised with Eswar Creatives, decided with Mohan A and MD ma'am, and written into the next version.
A rule that bends silently is no longer a rule. The route is short on purpose: one message, one decision, one line added here.
Maximum two revision cycles per deliverable round; changes after that are scoped separately.

Field card
One page for the crew and the printer. The rules that actually get broken, in the language the crew speaks. Cut it out, laminate it, keep it in the van.
This is the whole book at its smallest. If a person reads only this page, the brand survives the day.

Glossary
Twelve words a reader outside Chennai, or outside the trade, needs before the rest of the book makes sense.
Written for ISCL's design team in Bengaluru, for a printer who has never done a wedding, and for whoever joins NEWGEN next.
| Aha moment | Mohan's own term for spyro, fog, flower shower, balloon release and palanquin entry. Never "special effects". |
| Aisle | The walkway from entrance to stage, walked only by the couple. "Ramp" is the wider term and stays in search synonyms. |
| Crown | The flame and deepam at the top of the mark. Its height is the unit X. |
| Deepam | A lamp. In the mark, the cap the flame rises from. |
| Kolam | A geometric pattern drawn daily at South Indian thresholds as one continuous line. Our brand pattern is a kolam. |
| Maalai | Garland. Not a bouquet: bouquets are the rows on a stage. |
| Mandapam | A wedding hall. "Mandapam setup" means the venue building setup, not the canopy. |
| MD ma'am | The co-owner of NEWGEN, always referred to this way in client-facing text. |
| Muhurtham | The wedding ceremony, and the canopy it happens under. "Muhurtham setup" is the canopy. |
| Sketch-first | NEWGEN's method: a hand-drawn concept approved by the client before anything is produced. |
| Tanglish | Spoken Chennai Tamil with English domain words, the register of Mohan's WhatsApp. |
| X | The unit every spacing rule is written in: the height of the crown. |
A to Z
Every term a printer, a vendor or a new hire would actually search, with the rule it lives in.
